New 3DS firmware update is now live (6.0.0-11U), adds all-new StreetPass features

Earlier this morning, Nintendo released a new firmware update for the 3DS. Without any prior notification, version 6.0.0-11U was released worldwide. The update includes many new features, allowing you to back-up save data, while other improvements have also been added to the system.

The Save Data Back-up Feature currently allows users to back-up their saves for most Virtual Console games, and all downloadable versions of 3DS software.

The stability and usability of the system has also been updated, which adds a few minor improvements to enhance the overall experience of the system.

The following, which were included within previous system updates, are not included with system menu versions 6.0.0-0U through 6.0.0-4U:

  • New features for the Nintendo 3DS Camera
  • Content for StreetPass Mii Plaza
  • System Transfer between two Nintendo 3DS systems

The following, which were included within previous system updates, are not included with system menu versions 6.0.0-0U through 6.0.0-1U:

  • Addition of Internet Browser
  • Addition of Nintendo eShop
  • System Transfer from a Nintendo DSi or Nintendo DSi XL system

However, European and Japanese 3DS users will have found some other new features after updating their 3DS systems. The StreetPass Plaza has also been updated, and now users are able to purchase new downloadable games. Unlike before, you can now check for updates within the Plaza, and a new Exchange Booth, Shop section, and Play button will also be included.

The new games included in the update are as follows:

  • StreetPass Squad – Similar to StreetPass Quest, but set in space where you must battle the Gold Bone Gang.
  • StreetPass Garden – Moving in to a house in Leafington, players must grow flowers and decorate their gardens to become master gardeners under the watchful eye of Mr Mendel.
  • StreetPass Battle – A game using a mix of strategy and luck. Your butler, Wentworth, will help you build up an army of warriors using Miis gathered through StreetPass to battle other generals and conquer the land.
  • StreetPass Mansion – In this game, you will play as a detective. Your assistant Ella Mentree will help you solve the mystery of the haunted mansion, using the people you meet inside who’ve gathered there via StreetPass.

In Europe, all games will be able to be purchased for £4.49 (€4.99) each. Though a ‘Combo Pack’ is also available for purchase, giving you all four games for £13.49 (€14.99),  saving a total of £4.47 (€4.97).

These new games will award you with new hats and ‘Plaza Tickets’ if you manage to complete certain tasks. If you spend these Plaza Tickets in the Exchange Booth, you can unlock new accessories for your Mii. It seems the update has also brought two brand-new Puzzle Swap panels. New panels available are The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and Xenoblade Chronicles.

The new StreetPass features are currently only available in Europe and Japan, while North America is to receive the update at a later date. Bearing in mind, all the other features, such as the save data back-up, and improved system stability are available now worldwide. Will you be updating your 3DS, and purchasing some new games for your Plaza?
