News: Disney Infinity confirmed for Wii U, Wii and 3DS

disney_infinityFollowing in Activision’s footsteps, Disney Interactive has revealed Disney Infinity for Wii, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, alongside PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Making use of Near Field Communication technology – which happens to be built into the Wii U’s GamePad – players will need to purchase Disney-themed action figures to unlock levels and content in-game; a business model recognisable to anyone that’s played Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure, or its sequel, Skylanders Giants.

So far, it looks like Toy Story, Monsters Inc, Mickey Mouse, The Incredibles, and Cars are all set to make an appearance in the game when it launches sometime in June – with additional figures to be made available later on.
