Whilst Nintendo of Europe took a bit of a risk with the localisation of Wii JRPGs Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story and Pandora’s Tower, Nintendo’s American subsidiary seemingly-reluctantly released Monolith’s epic Xenoblade following pressure from Operation Rainfall, whilst Ganbarion’s Pandora’s Tower remains unreleased stateside.
In retrospect, it’s quite possible that Nintendo now regrets neglecting Mistwalker’s rather fantastic The Last Story – despite its (easily overlook-able) flaws, the Wii exclusive has become XSEED Games’ highest-grossing title of all time, since the North American publisher picked up exclusive rights to the title earlier this year!
“The Last Story has been an amazing title for XSEED Games and it has become our most successful title to date. This is a must have title for RPG fans, and we’re looking forward to more players discovering the magic that lies in Lazulis Island.”
That’s not to say that the game flopped elsewhere – The Last Story topped charts in its Japanese homeland for weeks, whilst it managed to break into the all-format top-10 in the UK during its first week in Europe.
